New Client Information Pack
This one page document will guide you through the process of putting your vessel into Safe Ship Management.

Equipment Guideline
This sheet shows you what the Maritime Rules say you should be carrying on board your vessel. There may be some items you feel are not relevant to your vessel and our surveyor can go into more detail with you about this once he establishes your passenger or crew numbers and operating limits.

Membership Agreement
This summarises the requirements under the Maritime NZ Code of Practice along with our own. It details in brief, the responsibilities of ourselves as the SSM company, those of the owner and also those of the Skipper to his crew and passengers.

FAQs

Why do I need certification?

Every commercial vessel in New Zealand needs certification, much like every car must have a Warrent Of Fitness. This is detailed in Maritime Rule Part 21 and there are different levels of compliance depending on what type of vessel and operation you have. Call us anytime to get an information pack that best suits.

How long does it take?

Allow at least one month to complete the survey, documentation and application for final certification. It may take longer if you need to have your vessel 'design approved'. Check with us to see whether your vessel fits this category.

How do I get started?

What records will I need?

For exsisting vessels, previous records will speed up the survey process. If the vessel has never been in survey, call us and we will talk you through whether she needs design approval or not. Certain production vessels are exempt from this requirement so it pays to check before you go ahead.

Where do I lodge my forms?

All forms should be lodged with Maritime NZ. There is only one form that may be lodged with Maritime NZ directly and this is the Fit and Proper Person Form. This form is required upon initial application.
